This article explains how to install the 2D barcode scanner ((E926356)) in virtual comport mode on a Linux system
Please see information below regarding how to use the 2D barcode scanner (Honeywell N3680) in virtual comport mode on a Linux system.
1. Configure the barcode scanner for USB serial by scanning the “VCP Mode (Virtual COM Port) TERMID130” barcode. This barcode can be found on page 9 of the Elo 2D Scanner User’s Guide.
2. In the File System, look for a file named ttyACM0 or similar. This will be created when the scanner is plugged in. On both Ubuntu and SuSe Linux, the file is created in the "dev" folder.
3. Open a terminal window as root user and type “lsub” + enter. Check that the device appears in the list. The device should be named “Metro”.
4. Test the barcode scanner.
- At the command prompt, type cat /dev/ttyACM0 + Enter. Note: Linux is case sensitive so type the path exactly as it is in the file system.
- Scan some barcodes, and they should display in the terminal window.
The barcode scanner is now communicating as a serial device on the Linux system.
