The below process describes how to create a WiFi Hotspot from an Elo Device.
Using readily available third-party applications, Elo Android devices can be used as a WIFI Hotspot to share its internet connection with other iOS, Windows, or Android devices. The instructions below assume you are using the PDANet+ application, but other tethering apps are available and will work in a similar way. Note: third-party tethering applications may require a license for continued use so please check with the app developer for any applicable licensing requirements.
Download the Tethering App
1. The PDANet+ app can be downloaded directly from this website: http://pdanet.co/install/
Deliver/Install Tethering App on Elo Device
2. In the EloView “Contents” area, upload the PDANet+ app to the App Library
3. Drag-and-drop the PDANet+ app to the appropriate device in the list that will act as a WIFI hotspot
Establish an Android WIFI Hotspot
4. Ensure that the Elo device is currently connected to the internet (via WIFI or LAN)
5. Launch the PDANet+ app and select the WIFI Direct Hotspot option
Note the network name and password for use by other devices
Use an iPhone to Connect to the Android WIFI Hotspot
6. In the iPhone “Wi-Fi Settings” area, locate the DIRECT-xx-xxxx network and tap the info icon
7. In the “HTTP PROXY” area, tap Configure Proxy
8. Select the Automatic option
9. For the URL, enter:
http://192.168.49.1:8000
10. Tap Save
11. Tap Join This Network
12. Enter the network password
13. Tap Join. The device is now connected to the Android WIFI hotspot
14. On the Android device, make sure to reestablish your POS/Kiosk application as the primary application. In the EloView “Contents” area, drag-and-drop the primary application/content back to the device.
Use Another Android Device to Connect to the Android WIFI Hotspot
15. On the primary Android device, select the WIFI Direct Hotspot option
Note the network name and password for use by other devices
16. For the newly created WIFI hotspot, tap the WPS button
17. On the secondary Android device, download/install the PDANet+ app
18. On the secondary Android device, select the Connect to a PdaNet Hotspot option
19. Click OK on the confirmation window. The device is now connected to the Android WIFI hotspot
Note: if the secondary Android device is previously connected to another
WIFI network, disconnect from that network. The device will automatically connect to the new Android WIFI hotspot.
20. On the primary Android device, make sure to reestablish your POS/Kiosk application as the primary application. In the EloView “Contents” area, drag-and-drop the primary application/content back to the device.
