This article explains the differences between an Interactive Digital Signage (IDS) Monitor and Open Frame monitor
Interactive Display monitors (IDS) have a more "finished" look to them, that is, they more resemble a Television. They are equipped with speakers and edge connect ports for peripherals. They also usually have a computer bay built into them that will house an ECM computer module. These are typically used for digital signage, endless aisle, meeting and board rooms, way finding stations, and whiteboards.
Open Frame monitors are designed to be mounted into an enclosure or kiosk. They usually have unfinished metal backs and sides. These do not have speakers or edge connect ports. These can be mounted on walls using the rear VESA mount but they do not look as polished as IDS monitors. Open Frame monitors do not have built in computer bays to house an ECM computer module. These are typically used in enclosures and kiosks, self-order and self-checkout kiosks or industrial controls, operating room control boards and wayfinding solutions.
Below is an example of the different finishes on a 3203L IDS Monitor and a 3243L Open Frame Monitor.
