Why Elo AccuTouch (5-Wire Resistive) Monitors Are Not Recommended for Android Systems
Applies To:
- Elo AccuTouch (5-wire resistive) touchscreen monitors
- Android operating systems
- Android-based computers, media players, and backpack PCs
- USB-connected resistive touch controllers
⚠️ Important: Elo AccuTouch (5-wire resistive) monitors are not recommended for Android deployments. The AccuTouch controller is not a fully HID-compliant touchscreen digitizer device, which means Android systems may not recognize or map touch input correctly.
Overview
Android operating systems are designed to work with touchscreen devices that follow the USB HID Digitizer standard. Devices that follow this standard report precise absolute touch coordinates and are recognized by the system as a touchscreen.
AccuTouch resistive touch controllers were originally designed for environments where Windows drivers provide calibration and input handling. Because of this design, the controller does not always present itself to the operating system as a standard HID touchscreen digitizer.
Since Android does not include Elo resistive touch drivers, the system may not correctly interpret touch input from an AccuTouch monitor.
Possible Behavior When Using AccuTouch with Android
When an AccuTouch monitor is connected to an Android device, customers may experience one or more of the following behaviors:
- Touch does not respond
- Touch only begins working after a USB mouse is connected
- Touch behaves like a mouse pointer rather than direct touch
- Touch input is misaligned or offset from the touch point
- Touch accuracy varies depending on the Android device or USB configuration
Windows Calibration Carryover Scenario
In some cases, an AccuTouch monitor may be connected to a Windows computer first, where the Elo driver is installed and the touchscreen is calibrated. If the monitor is then moved to an Android system, touch input may appear to work.
Recommended Touch Technologies for Android
For Android systems, Elo recommends using monitors that support the USB HID touchscreen digitizer standard. These devices are recognized by Android natively and provide reliable touch operation without requiring drivers.
Recommended Elo touch technologies include:
- Projected Capacitive (PCAP)
- HID-compliant touchscreen digitizer
- Plug-and-play support with Android
- Supports multi-touch functionality
- Infrared (IR)
- HID-compliant touchscreen digitizer
- Native Android compatibility
- Often used for larger interactive displays
