This article provides instructions for updating Android I-Series 5 and BackPack 5 devices to MR-4.
❗ Important: Elo strongly recommends updating all Android I-Series 5 and BackPack 5 devices to MR-4 when prompted during initial setup.
The update is automated, requires minimal interaction, and typically completes in five minutes or less.
Devices that remain on MR-2 may experience known issues that have already been resolved in MR-4.
⚠️ Before contacting Elo Technical Support, users should update to MR-4 to determine if the issue has already been addressed.
Devices Recommended for the MR-4 Update
- 10", 15", and 22" I-Series 5 with Android
- 15" I-Series 5 Slate with Android (including the EloPOS Z10 with Android kit)
- 10", 15", and 22" I-Series 5 Steel with Android
- Elo Backpack 5 with Android
How to Update Your Device to MR-4
There are several ways to update, depending on how your devices are managed:
1. EloView Devices
If your devices are managed through EloView, you can update via either the Software Update Dropdown or a Custom URL.
Option A: Software Update via Dropdown
- Log in to the EloView Portal.
- Navigate to Software section under the appropriate device.
- Click the Settings cog next to the Update Available button.
- Select the MR-4 (7.000.0004.00084+gen5) Software from the Dropdown menu and click Apply.

Option B: Software Update via Custom URL
- Log in to the EloView Portal.
- Navigate to Device Settings → OTA Update Settings.
- Paste the Custom URL and apply:

2. Devices Managed via 3rd-Party MDM
For devices managed using solutions like SOTI, VMware, or other MDMs:
Option A: OEMConfig
Use the Auto Update or Custom OTA URL field within Elo OEMConfig to trigger the MR-4 update on your devices.

Option B: One-Time OTA During OOBE
You can also apply the update during the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE):
- Power on the device.
- On the Network Screen, connect the device to the internet (Wi-Fi or LAN).
- When prompted, click Confirm on the One-Time OTA pop-up [Image 1].
- The device will download and install the MR-4 update automatically.
- Do not interrupt the process. The device will reboot once the update is complete.
3. Non-Managed Devices
For devices not managed via EloView or MDM, the One-Time OTA during OOBE method applies:
- Power on the device.
- On the Network Screen, connect the device to the internet (Wi-Fi or LAN).
- When prompted, click Confirm on the One-Time OTA pop-up [Image 1].
- The device will download and install the MR-4 update automatically.
- Do not interrupt the process. The device will reboot once the update is complete.
