ChromeOS Flex Licensing on Elo All-In-One Systems
Overview
Elo All-In-One systems that ship with ChromeOS Flex do not include a perpetual OS license. ChromeOS Flex is a free operating system provided by Google, designed to deliver a secure, web-first experience on Intel and AMD PC hardware.
Customers can use ChromeOS Flex out of the box without additional licensing fees, but certain advanced features require a Chrome Enterprise Upgrade subscription.
Key Points
- No perpetual license: ChromeOS Flex itself is free and does not require purchasing a license tied to the hardware.
- Chrome Enterprise Upgrade (optional): For organizations that require centralized management, advanced security policies, or kiosk and managed deployment features, a subscription to Chrome Enterprise Upgrade is required. Please contact Google Support
- Management: Devices without Chrome Enterprise Upgrade can still be used and updated normally, but administrative controls and advanced policies are limited.
- Compatibility: ChromeOS Flex runs on Elo Intel-based All-In-One systems but cannot be upgraded to standard ChromeOS, which is reserved for Google-certified Chromebook hardware.
What This Means for Customers
- No additional cost for the OS: The operating system comes preinstalled and is ready for use.
- Optional management features: Enterprises can choose to purchase Chrome Enterprise Upgrade for centralized device management and enhanced policy control.
- No Android app support by default: ChromeOS Flex does not include the Google Play Store or general Android app support.
- Cannot convert to standard ChromeOS: Due to licensing and firmware requirements, Elo All-In-One systems cannot be upgraded to full ChromeOS.
Summary
- ChromeOS Flex is free and preinstalled on Elo All-In-One systems.
- There is no perpetual OS license tied to the hardware.
- Advanced management features require a separate Chrome Enterprise Upgrade subscription.
- Standard ChromeOS is only available on Google-certified Chromebooks, Chromeboxes, and Chromebases, not on Elo AIO devices.
