Elo Touchscreen Technologies Overview
Understand the differences between Elo touchscreen technologies and choose the right solution for your environment.
This article provides an overview of the different Elo touchscreen technologies, including how they work, their benefits, and common applications.
IntelliTouch / SecureTouch (SAW)
IntelliTouch and SecureTouch are Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) technologies that use ultrasonic waves across a glass surface. A touch absorbs part of the wave, allowing the system to calculate the touch location.
Key Benefits:
- Flat, all-glass surface
- High accuracy and stability
- No bezel required
- Durable, tested to 50M+ touches
Best For:
- Public environments
- Interactive kiosks
- Retail and banking
AccuTouch (5-Wire Resistive)
AccuTouch uses two conductive layers that make contact when pressure is applied. The controller reads voltage changes to determine touch position.
Key Benefits:
- Works with gloves, stylus, or finger
- Resistant to dust and liquids
- Stable and drift-free
- Supports sealed designs (IP65/NEMA)
Best For:
- Industrial environments
- Medical equipment
- POS and kiosks
PCAP (Projected Capacitive - TouchPro)
PCAP technology detects touch through an electrical field and supports modern multi-touch functionality with fast response and high clarity.
Key Benefits:
- 10-point multi-touch
- Fast and responsive
- Excellent clarity
- No drivers required (HID compliant)
Best For:
- Modern touch applications
- Interactive signage
- Self-service kiosks
Infrared (IR)
Infrared touchscreens use a grid of invisible light beams. When a touch interrupts the beams, the system determines the touch location.
Key Benefits:
- No overlay, maximum clarity
- Highly durable and rugged
- Works in extreme environments
- No drivers required
Best For:
- Large displays
- Industrial environments
- Harsh conditions
