PCAP Touchmonitors Are Not Compatible with Windows 2000
Overview
Projected Capacitive (PCAP) touch technology is not supported on Microsoft Windows 2000. Due to the age and limitations of the operating system, it does not provide the necessary driver or USB capabilities required for proper PCAP touch functionality.
Windows 2000 Status
Microsoft officially ended mainstream support for Windows 2000 on June 30, 2005, and extended support ended on July 13, 2010. Since that time, Windows 2000 has not received any updates, driver compatibility improvements, or security patches from Microsoft.
Elo Driver Support
Elo does not provide Windows 2000 drivers for PCAP touchmonitors. All Elo PCAP touch-based products require a more recent operating system with USB HID-compliant touch support, such as Windows 7, Windows 10, or Windows 11. Therefore, there are no Elo drivers or firmware updates available that will enable full PCAP functionality on a Windows 2000 system.
Connection Limitations
If a PCAP touchmonitor is connected to a Windows 2000 computer, limited or inaccurate touch response may occur. This is due to the older USB technology in Windows 2000, which lacks modern HID touch protocols. As a result:
- Touch response may behave inconsistently or offset from the intended touch target.
- Gestures, multi-touch, and precision calibration will not function properly.
- The monitor will not perform the same as it does on a supported operating system such as Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Recommendation
For full compatibility and accurate touch functionality, Elo recommends using a supported Windows operating system—preferably Windows 10 or Windows 11—when operating PCAP touchmonitor products.
