This article explains how to configure the Elo UIC680 NFC Reader to read MIFARE® cards. It covers installing the required utilities, loading MIFARE firmware, verifying the firmware version, enabling MIFARE mode, and testing card operation.

Before starting this procedure, download and extract the attached NFC Customer Files.zip package to a local folder on your computer. The package contains the firmware, upgrade utility, demo utility, and supporting files required for this procedure.

Step 1 — Install the Upgrade Utility
- Run 68MDLX2M.exe.
- Select USB HID Keyboard.
- From the Update Device drop-down list, select: UIC680SG_MAD Main Board
Step 2 — Load the MIFARE Firmware
- Click Load File.
- Browse to the required firmware file.
⚠ Firmware Selection
- 68TP9621_b11_T.bin — Reads Sector 0 / Block 01 (recommended for most applications).
- 68TP9621_b10_T.bin — Reads Sector 0 / Block 00.
Use the firmware that matches the layout of your MIFARE cards.
- Click Download to begin programming the reader.
- Wait approximately one to two minutes while the firmware downloads. The reader will beep several times during programming.
- Verify that the status field displays: Download Complete!
Step 3 — Verify the Firmware Version
- Click Get Version.
- Verify the firmware version is 170616.
- Click Exit.
Step 4 — Enable MIFARE Mode
- Run the UIC680SG Demo Utility: 68SG4X2I.exe
- Select the Communication tab.
- Choose: USB HID Keyboard
- Click Continue.
Step 5 — Send the MIFARE Command
- Select the Direct IO Command tab.
- Choose BLP as the protocol.
- Enter MF12.
- Click Send Data.
Step 6 — Restart the Reader
Disconnect the USB cable from the UIC680 reader and reconnect it to perform a complete power cycle.
Step 7 — Test the Reader
- Open Windows Notepad.
- Present a MIFARE card to the reader.
- Verify that card data appears.
Troubleshooting
⚠ If the Card Does Not Read
- Return to the Direct IO Command screen.
- Send command MF15.
- Power cycle the reader.
- Test the card again.
If necessary, try the remaining operating modes: MF10, MF11, MF12, MF13, MF14, MF15
A complete power cycle is required after every mode change.
