How do I reset my MSR, PN E001002 to factory defaults?

This article explains how to reset the Elo magnetic stripe reader (MSR), part number E001002, to its factory-default configuration.

⚠️ Important: This reset procedure applies only to an MSR configured for Encryption Level 2.

Download and install the MagTek USBMSR Demo Utility.
Connect the MSR to the Windows computer.
Open USBMSR Demo 2.02.
Verify that the MSR is configured for Encryption Level 2:
1. Select Auto Add Length.
2. Enter 15 in the Send Msg field.
3. Select Send.
4. Review the response to confirm that the MSR uses Encryption Level 2.
Download the Dynamag Defaults Level 2 KB.txt configuration file.
In the USBMSR Demo utility, select Load File.
Navigate to the downloaded Dynamag Defaults Level 2 KB.txt file, select it, and then select Open.
Select Download to send the factory-default configuration to the MSR.
Wait for the programming process to finish. The MSR will automatically disconnect and reconnect.
Confirm that the following message appears at the bottom of the utility:

Detected Keyboard Mode Device
Close the utility. The MSR has been restored to its factory-default configuration.

⚠️ Important: Do not disconnect the MSR or close the utility while the configuration file is being programmed.
