This article outlines whether privacy screens and screen protectors can be used with various Elo touch technologies and provides specific guidance for each.
Technology Compatibility Overview
IntelliTouch / SecureTouch (SAW): ❌
Privacy screens should not be used. SAW technology relies on acoustic wave signals across the glass surface. Any contact—such as an applied film—will interfere with signal propagation, causing false touches or complete touchscreen failure.
Projective Capacitive (PCAP): ✅ (With conditions)
Privacy screens can be used on PCAP displays if the following conditions are met:
- Material thickness must be ≤ 6mm
- Touch-Through mode may need to be enabled in the OSD. (Note: enabling this limits touch to 2-points instead of 10.)
- No air gap can exist between the privacy screen and the touch surface
- Metal or conductive films must not be used, as they interfere with capacitive function
Infrared (IR): ✅
Privacy screens can be used as long as they do not block the infrared light grid between the bezel's internal LEDs and photoreceptors.
AccuTouch (Resistive): ✅
Privacy screens are generally compatible. AccuTouch has a plastic top layer, and as long as the film maintains contact with this layer, it should function properly.
