This article explains how to obtain and use Comdump, a legacy diagnostic utility used to troubleshoot Elo serial touch controllers and serial (COM) port communication.
Comdump is a legacy diagnostic utility intended for older Elo SmartSet-compatible serial touch controllers. This utility is no longer actively supported and is provided as a courtesy for customers maintaining legacy Elo products.
About Comdump
Comdump is designed to verify communication between an Elo serial touchscreen and the host computer. It can help determine whether the following components are functioning correctly:
- Elo serial touchscreen
- Serial touch controller
- Computer serial (COM) port
- Serial communication cable
The utility communicates directly with the serial controller and reports diagnostic information that can assist in identifying hardware or communication issues.
Download
The latest version of comdump.exe (approximately 7 KB) is attached to this Knowledge Base article.
Save comdump.exe to an easily accessible location, such as the root of the hard drive or a USB flash drive. Before launching the utility, stop or disable the Elo touch driver so that Comdump can access the serial COM port directly.
System Requirements
- 32-bit DOS application
- Designed for DOS
- Supported on Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP
- Operation on newer versions of Windows is not guaranteed

Diagnostic Examples
By default, Elo serial touch drivers require the DSR (Data Set Ready) and CTS (Clear To Send) hardware handshake signals to be present. If these signals are unavailable, the driver will not communicate with the touchscreen unless hardware handshaking has been disabled.
Comdump is intended only for legacy serial touchscreen products. Modern Elo USB touchscreens and current Elo drivers do not require this utility for troubleshooting.
