This article explains how to remove all sentinels from the encrypted MagTek magnetic stripe reader, Elo part number E001002.

Tools Required

• Elo encrypted MagTek MSR, part number E001002
• Computer running Windows 7 or later
• MagTek Programming Utility 

Procedure

1. Download and install the MagTek Programming Utility .

   After installation, open the Windows Start menu and launch USBMSR Demo 2.02.

2. Connect the MSR to the computer. The utility should detect the MSR in either Keyboard Mode or HID Mode.

   The following example shows an MSR detected in Keyboard Mode:

   

3. To send a command manually:

   1. Enter the command in the Send Msg field.
   2. Select Auto Add Length.
   3. Click Send Msg.
   Command to remove all sentinels
   Enter 01 14 03, and then click Send Msg.

   

   After the command is sent, the request and response appear in the utility's data window.

   

4. Enter 02 in the Send Msg field, and then click Send Msg. This cycles power to the MSR and saves the changes.

   Important: You must send the 02 command after making changes. Otherwise, the new configuration may not be saved.

   The utility should automatically redetect the MSR after the power cycle.

   

5. Swipe a card to verify that the MSR output no longer contains sentinels.
