Why is the 1st Generation 2D Barcode Scanner (E926356) Not Scanning Into Notepad?

This article provides instructions and help with the Elo 2D barcode scanner beeping but not scanning anything into Notepad

The 2D Barcode Scanner is set from the factory to scan USB VCP (Virtual COM port) mode. If you need to scan barcodes into Notepad or any other open field, you will need to change the scanning mode to USB Keyboard Emulation mode. You can do this by scanning the USB Keyboard Mode barcode label found on page 9 of the User's Manual: https://docs.elotouch.com/accessories/UM600149.pdf
