- USB 1.0 (1996): Initial release. Data transfer rates of 1.5 megabits per second (Mbps) at low speed and 12 Mbps at full speed.
- USB 1.1 (1998): Added support for extension cables and hot-swappable devices.
- USB 2.0 (2000): Increased data transfer rates to 480 Mbps.
- USB 2.1 (2006): Increased data transfer rates to 5.0 Mbps.
- USB 3.0 (2008): Increased data transfer rates to 5.0 Gbps.
- USB 3.1 (2013): Increased data transfer rates to 10.0 Gbps.
- USB 3.2 (2017): Increased data transfer rates to 20.0 Gbps.
- USB 3.2 Gen 2 (2018): Increased data transfer rates to 10.0 Gbps.
- USB 3.2 Gen 2ร2 (2019): Increased data transfer rates to 20.0 Gbps.
- USB 4.0 (2020): Increased data transfer rates to 40.0 Gbps.
- USB 4.2 (2022): Increased data transfer rates to 200.0 Gbps.
