This article explains that Elo is unable to remove Google PINs from devices and why
Occasionally, customers contact Elo requesting assistance with removing a Google PIN from an Android device. This may occur if a device was purchased secondhand and the previous owner did not remove the PIN, or if the original user has forgotten their PIN and cannot access the device.
Unfortunately, Elo is unable to remove Google PINs from devices. Please refer to the information below for further details.
Removing a Google Account PIN (or the associated screen lock) on an Android device is subject to several security restrictions to prevent unauthorized access. Here are the main factors to consider:
1. Device Security Features
- If Google's Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is enabled, simply removing the Google account from the device without knowing the PIN or password may still require Google account credentials upon a factory reset.
- Changing or removing a PIN, password, or pattern requires authentication (e.g., fingerprint, face unlock, or the original PIN).
2. Google Account & FRP Restrictions
- If a Google account is removed, you will need to re-enter the credentials if the device is factory reset.
- If you reset your password and then attempt to remove the Google account, Google may impose a 24- to 72-hour security lockout before allowing sign-in on a new device.
3. Device Administrator & Work Profiles
- If the device is managed by an organization (via MDM like Google Workspace, Intune, etc.), removing the PIN or Google account might be restricted or require admin approval.
- If Find My Device is enabled, Google may prevent removal or changes until it is disabled.
4. Factory Reset Considerations
- A factory reset without properly removing the Google account will trigger FRP (Factory Reset Protection), requiring the original Google account credentials to set up the device again.
- If you forget the PIN and cannot reset it, a factory reset might be the only option, but FRP will still require the Google credentials.
How to Remove a Google Account PIN Safely:
- Go to Settings Security Screen Lock and change/remove the PIN (requires the current PIN or password).
- If removing a Google account, go to Settings Accounts Google, select the account, and remove it (requires the account password if FRP is enabled).
- If locked out, use "Forgot PIN?" (if available) or reset the device, but be prepared for FRP verification.
