This article explains how to wirelessly project (screencast) your computer or Android device to a display that does not have built-in smart capabilities. It includes step-by-step instructions for using both a direct device connection and a wireless display adapter.
🔹 1. Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
- A display (TV, monitor, or interactive panel) with at least one available HDMI port
- A computer or Android device capable of screencasting
- Either:
- A wireless display adapter (e.g., Chromecast, Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, EZCast, Airtame)
- Example here: https://a.co/d/ep41GNz
- Or a compatible video cable (HDMI, DisplayPort, USB-C)
- A wireless display adapter (e.g., Chromecast, Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter, EZCast, Airtame)
🔹 2. Screencasting with a Wireless Display Adapter
Wireless display adapters allow you to transmit your screen content without a physical connection between your device and the display.
Setup Steps
- Connect the adapter:
- Plug the HDMI connector of the wireless adapter into an open port on your display.
- Connect the USB power cable to a USB port on the display (or a wall adapter, if required).
- Set the display input:
- Use the display’s input/source button to select the HDMI port where the adapter is connected.
- Confirm adapter setup:
- A setup or standby screen should appear—this means the adapter is ready for connections.
Casting from a Windows 10/11 Computer
- Ensure your PC and the wireless adapter are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- Press
Windows + Kor go to:- Settings → System → Display → Connect to a wireless display
- Wait for your adapter’s name to appear (for example, “Wireless Display Adapter” or “Chromecast”).
- Select it to connect.
- Once connected, your desktop will appear on the display.
💡 Tip: Use
Windows + Pto switch between Duplicate, Extend, or Second screen only modes.
Casting from an Android Device
- Make sure your phone/tablet and adapter share the same Wi-Fi network.
- Swipe down from the top of your screen to open Quick Settings.
- Tap Cast, Smart View, or Wireless Display (the name varies by manufacturer).
- Select your adapter from the list.
- Confirm connection if prompted.
🔹 3. Screencasting with a Physically Connected Device
If you prefer a reliable wired connection or your environment doesn’t support wireless networking, you can connect your device directly using a video cable.
Connecting a Computer
- Plug one end of the HDMI or DisplayPort cable into your computer.
- Connect the other end to the display’s corresponding input port.
- Use the display’s input/source control to select the connected port.
- Your desktop should appear automatically.
- If not, press
Windows + Pand select “Duplicate” or “Extend” display mode.
- If not, press
Connecting an Android Device
- Use a USB-C to HDMI adapter (ensure it supports video output).
- Connect the adapter to your Android device and attach the HDMI cable between the adapter and the display.
- Switch the display input to the correct HDMI port.
- The Android screen should mirror automatically.
🔧 Note: Not all Android phones support video output via USB-C. Check your manufacturer’s documentation under “Display or video output support.”
🔹 4. Troubleshooting
| Issue | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Adapter not showing | Not on same network / loose connection | Verify Wi-Fi and HDMI connection |
| Lag or delay | Weak Wi-Fi signal | Move closer to router or use 5 GHz band |
| No display from wired connection | Incorrect input selected | Cycle through display inputs (HDMI 1, HDMI 2, etc.) |
| No sound | Audio not routed through HDMI | Check sound output in system settings |
| Frequent disconnects | Firmware or power issue | Update firmware and use stable power source for adapter |
🔹 5. Summary
Even without smart features, you can easily mirror or extend your screen to a display using:
- A wireless display adapter for flexible, cable-free projection.
- A physical HDMI or USB-C connection for direct, dependable performance.
Both methods allow you to display content from your device on a larger screen for presentations, meetings, or entertainment.
