Setting Privileges to Allow User Calibration in the Windows NT Driver (v3.1c)
This article explains how to adjust registry permissions to allow standard users to perform touchscreen calibration when using the legacy Windows NT v3.1c touch driver from Elo — Now part of Zebra Technologies.
Important Support Notice: Windows NT is an obsolete operating system and is no longer supported by Microsoft or Elo Touch Solutions. This information is provided solely for legacy maintenance and historical reference.
Modifying Registry Permissions
- Open the Registry Editor by running the
regedt32command. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MonMouseFrom the top menu, click Security, and then select Permissions.
Critical Step: You must check the box that says "Replace Permission on existing subkeys" to ensure the changes propagate correctly to all touch devices.- If the target user group is already listed in the Name window:
- Highlight the desired group.
- Ensure that the group is set to have Full Control.
- If the target user group is NOT listed in the Name window:
- Click the Add button.
- Select the appropriate group (usually "Everyone").
- Ensure that the newly added group is set to have Full Control.
- Click the OK button(s), and then click Yes to confirm your changes.
Note on Calibration Errors: After configuring these permissions, users may receive an error message during calibration stating, "Some of the values may not have been saved." You can safely ignore this message; the system will still operate and save the calibration correctly.
