This article explains why Windows XP Embedded is not supported on PCAP, IR, and IntelliTouch Plus touch monitors.
Microsoft ended support for Windows XP Embedded on January 12, 2016. As a result, the operating system no longer receives security updates, bug fixes, or platform enhancements. Elo does not develop, test, or validate PCAP, IR, or IntelliTouch Plus touch drivers for Windows XP Embedded.
Windows XP Embedded (XPe) is not supported on Elo Projected Capacitive (PCAP), Infrared (IR), and IntelliTouch Plus touch monitors because the operating system lacks native support for the modern touch technologies and HID (Human Interface Device) architectures used by these products.
PCAP, IR, and IntelliTouch Plus touch technologies were designed to support advanced touch functionality, including multi-touch operation. These technologies rely on HID-compliant USB touch controllers and operating system frameworks that were introduced and enhanced in later versions of Windows.
Windows XP Embedded was developed before these technologies became widely adopted and does not include the operating system components required to fully support modern HID-compliant touch devices.
Modern Touch Technologies Require Modern Operating Systems
PCAP, IR, and IntelliTouch Plus touch monitors depend on operating system features that are not available in Windows XP Embedded. These features include support for:
- Multi-touch operation
- Touch gestures such as pinch, zoom, and rotation
- HID-compliant USB touch devices
- Improved touch responsiveness and accuracy
- Modern Windows touch frameworks and APIs
Because these operating system components are not present in Windows XP Embedded, the advanced touch capabilities provided by modern Elo touch technologies cannot function correctly.
Customers may notice that some legacy Elo touch drivers appear to install on Windows XP Embedded systems. However, successful driver installation does not indicate compatibility with PCAP, IR, or IntelliTouch Plus touch technologies. Modern HID-compliant touch controllers are not recognized or supported by legacy Windows XP Embedded touch drivers.

Recommended Solution
Elo recommends using supported single-touch technologies such as IntelliTouch® or AccuTouch® touch monitors. These technologies were designed during the Windows XP Embedded era and are compatible with the legacy Elo touch drivers available for that operating system.
PCAP, IR, and IntelliTouch Plus touch technologies require modern HID-compliant frameworks and operating system support that are not available in Windows XP Embedded.
Summary
- Windows XP Embedded does not include the HID touch framework required by modern touch technologies.
- PCAP, IR, and IntelliTouch Plus touch monitors rely on HID-compliant USB architectures and multi-touch frameworks introduced after Windows XP Embedded was released.
- Legacy Windows XP Embedded touch drivers do not support modern PCAP, IR, or IntelliTouch Plus touch controllers.
- Elo does not develop, test, or validate PCAP, IR, or IntelliTouch Plus touch drivers for Windows XP Embedded.
PCAP, IR, and IntelliTouch Plus touch monitors are not supported on Windows XP Embedded. For full touch functionality and optimal performance, Elo recommends using Windows 10 IoT Enterprise, Windows 11 IoT Enterprise, or another currently supported operating system listed in the product specifications.
