Why is the Elo Touch Driver Flagged During Installation?
On some Windows systems, the Elo touch driver may be flagged during installation by certain anti-virus or security tools. These alerts typically reference components within the Elo Service Reporting feature, including:
- EloSerRptClient.exe
- OpenHardwareMonitorLib.sys
- WinRing0.sys
This issue is limited to Windows Multi-Touch driver versions 7.0 through 9.0.1, when the Service Reporting feature was introduced.
These files are not malicious and do not contain viruses. The alerts are false positives triggered by how some security tools interpret low-level hardware access components.
If your environment blocks installation or you prefer to remove the Service Reporting components, follow one of the options below.
Resolution Options
Option 1: Disable Service Reporting Before Installation (Recommended)
Modify the driver configuration file before installing:
- Locate EloOptions.ini in the driver package
- Open the file and find the [Setup Options] section
- Change the following value:
This change must be made after extracting the driver and before running the installer.
This prevents the Service Reporting components, including WinRing0.sys, from being installed.
Option 2: Remove Service Reporting After Installation
If the driver is already installed, you can remove the Service Reporting component:
- Open Windows Add or Remove Programs
- Locate Elo Service Reporting
- Select and uninstall
Summary
Anti-virus alerts during Elo driver installation are caused by false positives related to the Service Reporting feature. The driver itself is safe. If needed, the Service Reporting component can be disabled before installation or removed afterward without impacting core touch functionality.
