Using an Elo ECMG4 as a Standalone Computer Module
This article explains how to operate an Elo ECMG4 independently of an IDS display. This allows you to connect the ECMG4 to any monitor with an HDMI input for testing, staging, or provisioning.
Required Hardware
- Elo ECMG4 Computer Module: https://www.elotouch.com/accessories-ecmg4.html
- HDMI-equipped monitor (example used in this guide: Elo 1099L Outdoor Open Frame Monitor )
- 0.35M Adapter Cable C14 for Elo Computer Modules – Elo P/N: E766781
-
North America 1.8m (6-foot) Power Cable C13 – Elo P/N: E593865
- Alternatively, you can use a third-party C13 power cable such as this one from Tripp Lite .
- HDMI cable example here.
- USB touch cable (required only when connecting to a touch monitor) example here.
-
Power strip with on/off switch – Elo P/N: E765397
- Alternatively, you can use a third-party power strip with an on/off switch such as this one from Tripp Lite .
Connection Steps
-
Connect the HDMI cable between the monitor and the ECMG4. If using a touch monitor, also connect the USB touch cable.
-
Connect the 0.35M Adapter Cable C14 to the ECMG4 computer module.
-
Connect the C13 power cable to the C14 connection on the adapter cable.
- Apply power by plugging the C13 power cable into a switched power strip or switched outlet.
-
Verify that video output appears on the monitor and the system begins booting.
The ECMG4 does not have an external power switch. To turn the unit on and off, use a switched outlet or a power strip with an on/off switch. When power is reapplied, the ECMG4 will automatically begin its startup sequence.
Change Power Settings in BIOS
To ensure the ECMG4 powers on automatically when AC power is applied, change the BIOS setting below.
- Enter the system BIOS by tapping the DEL key on a connected keyboard during boot.
-
Navigate to Chipset, then Chipset PCH Configuration.
Chipset PCH Configuration" width="1280" height="319" /
-
Locate Restore AC Power Loss. By default, this is set to Last State. Change it to Power On.
Required: Set Restore AC Power Loss to Power On so the ECMG4 boots automatically whenever power is applied. - Save changes and exit BIOS. The ECMG4 should now power up automatically when AC power is applied.
