The below article is a general guide for how to reduce eyestrain while using a computer monitor. These are not specific to Elo touchmonitors and can be used with any display.
1. Adjust monitor settings: (Please refer to your monitor's User Guide for how to make adjustments)
- Brightness: Set the monitor brightness to a comfortable level that is not too bright or too dim. Adjust it according to the ambient lighting in your workspace.
- Contrast: Adjust the contrast level to improve text readability and reduce strain on your eyes.
- Color temperature: Opt for a warmer color temperature (such as "warm" or "yellowish") rather than cooler tones (such as "cool" or "bluish"). Warmer colors are generally easier on the eyes.
2. Optimize monitor position:
- Position: Place the monitor at a comfortable distance, typically around an arm's length away. Adjust the height so that the top of the screen is at or slightly below eye level. Angle the monitor to minimize glare from external light sources.
- Ergonomic setup: Consider using an adjustable monitor stand or mounting arm to ensure proper alignment with your eyes and prevent neck and back strain.
3. Use proper lighting:
- Ambient lighting: Avoid excessive brightness or glare in your workspace. Use indirect lighting or shades to reduce glare on the monitor screen.
- Task lighting: Ensure that your workspace is adequately lit, but avoid stark contrasts between the brightness of your monitor and the surrounding area.
4. Take regular breaks:
- 20-20-20 rule: Every 20 minutes, look away from the monitor and focus on an object about 20 feet (6 meters) away for 20 seconds. This helps relax eye muscles and reduce fatigue.
- Blink frequently: Remember to blink consciously to keep your eyes moisturized and prevent dryness and irritation.
5. Adjust text and display settings: (Please refer to your computer's User Guide for how to make adjustments)
- Font size: Increase the font size if text appears too small and strains your eyes. Adjust it to a comfortable size for reading.
- Display scaling: If the monitor resolution is high, consider adjusting the display scaling settings to enlarge text and other elements on the screen.
- Color schemes: Experiment with different color schemes and background settings to find the most comfortable combination for your eyes.
6. Maintain good posture:
- Sit upright with proper posture to reduce strain on your neck, shoulders, and back. Adjust your chair and desk ergonomically to maintain a comfortable and supportive position.
By following these practices, you can help reduce eyestrain and maintain better eye comfort while using a computer monitor for extended periods of time.
