This article explains how to use the remote power button on the Elo Backpack with Intel.
Overview
The Elo Backpack with Intel includes a Remote Power Switch port that allows the system to be powered on or off without pressing the physical power button. This port is intended for installations where the Backpack is mounted inside a cabinet, enclosure, or behind a display.
The remote power switch performs the same function as the physical power button and is provided as an alternative control method.
How the Remote Power Switch Works
The port uses a Phoenix connector
Power control is triggered using a momentary dry contact
Briefly closing the contact simulates pressing the power button
No external voltage should be applied
Connector Details and Pinout
The Remote Power Switch connector (CN11) uses the following pin assignment:
| Pin | Signal | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Pin 1 | Power Switch | Power control signal (internal pull-up to 3.3 V) |
| Pin 2 | GND | Ground |
Momentarily short Pin 1 to Pin 2 to power the system on or off
Recommended press duration: 0.5–1 second
Power behavior follows BIOS and operating system power-button settings
Typical Use Cases
External or hidden power button on a kiosk or cabinet
Relay-based control from a PLC or automation system
Power control synchronized with an enclosure or display
Installations where the physical power button is inaccessible
Because customer requirements vary, Elo does not provide a standard remote power cable. Customers may wire the Phoenix connector according to their specific installation needs.
Integration with Elo IDS Displays
When the Backpack with Intel is mounted to a compatible Elo IDS display, the Remote Power Switch port can be used to synchronize power control between the display and the Backpack, allowing both devices to power on and off together.
Important Usage Notes
- Use a momentary contact only, not a maintained or latching switch
- Long contact closures may trigger forced shutdown behavior
- System response depends on BIOS and OS power-button settings
Summary
The Remote Power Switch port on the Elo Backpack with Intel provides a simple, low-voltage method to remotely control system power using a Phoenix connector and a momentary dry contact. This enables flexible integration into cabinets, kiosks, and Elo display installations without switching main power.
