This article explains how to install and configure the Elo Edge Connect VFD Customer Display (E001003) on Windows 10. It covers installing the required drivers, connecting the display, configuring the virtual COM port, and verifying proper operation.
ℹ Before You Begin
Download the Windows VFD Customer Display package from the Elo Developer Portal before beginning this procedure. The download contains the Prolific USB-to-Serial driver, VFD configuration utility, and supporting files.

Required Files
- Download the Windows VFD Customer Display package from the Elo Developer Portal .
Installation Procedure
- Do not connect the VFD Customer Display to the monitor until instructed in Step 8.

Download the VFD Customer Display package from the Elo Developer Portal.
Above image shows location of VFD Drivers in the Developer Portal - Extract the downloaded ZIP file. The package contains the following files:
- Extract PL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1200.zip, then run PL2303-Prolific_DriverInstaller_v1200.exe.
- Click Next.
- The Prolific USB-to-Serial driver installs automatically. Installation typically completes in less than one minute.
- Click Finish.
⚠ Important
Shut down the computer before connecting the VFD Customer Display. Connecting the display before the driver is installed may prevent Windows from installing the device correctly.

- Shut down the computer and connect the VFD Customer Display to the monitor.
- Power the computer back on. Windows will detect the hardware and complete installation automatically.
- Open Device Manager and locate the Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port. Record the assigned COM port number, as it will be needed when configuring the display.
- Extract VFDSetup_v6.1.1.7, then run VFD_Setup_v6.1.1.7.exe.
- From the COM Port Select drop-down list, choose the virtual COM port identified in Device Manager.
- Select the Welcome Message section and customize Line 1 and Line 2 with the desired startup message.
- Click Download Setting. A confirmation dialog should display Download Success.
- Verify that the customized message appears on the VFD Customer Display.
Optional Testing
After the display has been configured successfully, you can verify operation using the built-in test functions.
- Open the Display Testing section and run the available display tests.
- Open the ISP section to save additional display messages for later use.
💡 Tip
If the VFD Customer Display does not appear in the VFD Setup utility, verify that the correct COM port is selected and confirm the Prolific USB-to-Serial driver installed successfully in Windows Device Manager.
