This article discusses ESD protection on Elo products.
Question: What kind of ESD protection do Elo products offer and what are ways I can avoid ESDs from damaging my Elo devices?
Answer: All Elo products have some degree of Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection. Every Elo touchmonitor and touchcomputer has Agency Approval Certificates that lists all electrical compliance safety standards they have been certified to. ESD immunity is typically covered under the UL IEC CB certificate. For example; IEC 61000-4-2 (4kV contact / 8kV air) which is the compliance standard for commercial electronics required to attain CE Mark, UL, and other certifications.
Please visit the product spec page for your specific Elo product and download the Agency Approval Certificate to see this information.
Some tips for protecting electronic equipment from ESD
1. Make sure all workbenches and equipment is well grounded.
2. Use grounded antistatic mats on workbenches.
3. Use grounded antistatic floor mats in work areas.
4. Use antistatic wrist straps when working on computers.
5. Make certain all electrical connections are grounded.
6. Wear antistatic gloves when handling electronic components.
7. Store any electrical components in antistatic bags.
8. Keep work areas free of any static generating materials.
9. Regulate relative environmental humidity between 40 - 60 percent to reduce resistance of equipment that can generate an electrical charge. Anything lower than 40% has the potential for electrostatic build-up.
10. Remove carpets, rugs, and other such materials from the surroundings as these items can build up electrostatic discharge.
