How to Install Serial Monitors in Windows Using the Single-Touch Driver

The following guide describes how to install single and multiple serial-connected touch monitors on a Windows computer using the Elo — Now part of Zebra Technologies Single-Touch 5.x Driver series. These instructions are also available in the Driver User's Manual, which is included in the driver .zip package.

Installing a Single Serial Monitor

1. Run the self-extracting .zip file to unzip the installation files. This will automatically launch the EloSetup installer.

2. Select the desired language for the driver package.

   Note: The selected language will be applied to all Elo components. To change the language later, you must first uninstall the driver package and then reinstall it, selecting the new language from the drop-down menu. Supported languages include English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese.

   

3. Check the box for Install Serial Touchscreen Drivers.
   
4. Review and accept the License Agreement by clicking Yes.
5. Check the Auto-detect Elo Touchscreens box if your touch monitor's serial cable is already connected to the computer and supports hardware handshaking. If you plan to connect the serial cable later, leave this box unchecked.
   
6. Click the Next button. A list of all detected serial ports will be displayed. Select the desired COM port(s) and click Next.
   
7. The selected COM port(s) will appear in the next screen for verification. Click Next to proceed with the installation.
   
8. When the Setup Complete screen appears, ensure the Calibrate Elo Touchscreen monitors box is checked and click Finish.
   
9. The screen calibration utility will start. Firmly touch each target as it appears to complete the calibration process.
   
10. After calibration, you can double-click the Elo icon in the system tray to open the Elo Touchscreen Control Panel for further adjustments.
    

Installing Multiple Serial Monitors

1. Follow the same general procedure for a single serial monitor installation, but be sure to auto-detect or manually select all the serial ports that will be used for your touch monitors.
2. After the driver files are installed, the Setup Complete screen will appear. You can choose to run calibration (the Elo Video Alignment program, EloVA) immediately by checking the box, or you can run it later from the Elo Control Panel.
3. When EloVA runs for the first time, it will attempt to calibrate all installed controllers and/or serial ports. You can press the Esc key to skip calibration for any monitor or allow the program to time out. The utility will continue until all detected devices have been calibrated.

Installing a Mix of Serial and USB Monitors

1. Run the self-extracting .zip file to launch the EloSetup installer.
2. In the setup window, check both the Install Serial Touchscreen Drivers and Install USB Touchscreen Drivers boxes.
3. Review and accept the License Agreement by clicking Yes. The program will proceed like a serial controller installation, but the USB driver files will also be installed in the background.
4. When the Setup Complete screen appears, you may run the EloVA calibration utility immediately or at a later time from the Control Panel. The program will attempt to calibrate all connected serial and USB devices.
