⚠️ Important Firmware Notice:

Under normal operating conditions, a BIOS update is not required unless recommended by Elo Technical Support to resolve a specific hardware anomaly or enable newly released features.

Critical Rule: Ensure uninterrupted AC power during the update process. Do not power off, reset, or unplug the unit while firmware programming is in progress, as doing so may cause permanent EEPROM corruption.

This article provides step-by-step instructions for updating the System BIOS and Intel® Management Engine (ME) firmware on the Elo Backpack® with Intel (Windows/Intel architecture) using the Windows-based AMI Firmware Update (AFUWIN) utility.

Step-by-Step BIOS & ME Update Procedure

Phase 1: Enable Intel ME Firmware Re-Flash in BIOS Setup

Connect a USB keyboard, power on the Elo Backpack with Intel, and repeatedly press the Del key during startup to enter the BIOS Setup utility.
Navigate to the following path:
Advanced > PCH-FW Configuration > Firmware Update Configuration
Locate the Me FW Image Re-Flash setting and change it to [Enable]:
Navigate to the Save & Exit tab, select Save Changes and Reset, and allow the system to reboot into Windows.

Phase 2: Execute Firmware Programming in Windows

Extract the AfuWin64.zip flash tool archive onto your local drive (e.g., C:\BIOS_Update\).
Copy the new BIOS firmware binary file (e.g., B245.20A) directly into the same folder as AFUWINx64.exe.
Open Command Prompt as Administrator:
- Click the Windows Start menu, type cmd, right-click Command Prompt, and select Run as administrator.
Change directory (cd) to your flash utility folder:

cd C:\BIOS_Update
Execute the flash command (replace B245.20A with your actual firmware file name if different):

AFUWINx64.exe B245.20A /p /b /n /k /r /me

(Parameter Breakdown: /p program main BIOS, /b program boot block, /n program NVRAM, /k program non-critical blocks, /r preserve SMBIOS UUID/keys, /me program Intel ME region.)

Phase 3: System Restart & Version Verification

Once the utility displays a successful completion status, restart the system. The system will perform an automated secondary initialization cycle during reboot to apply the ME firmware.
During the reboot, press Del to enter the BIOS setup menu.
Under the Main and Advanced tabs, verify that the BIOS Version and ME Firmware Version reflect the newly installed build numbers.

✔ Post-Update Recommendation: Navigate to Save & Exit > Restore Defaults (F9), select Save Changes and Reset, and reconfigure any custom boot device priorities or peripheral power options required for your deployment.
