Using the IR Beam Monitor Utility in the Windows Driver
This article explains how to configure and use the IR Beam Monitor utility included in the Elo — Now part of Zebra Technologies Windows touch driver. This function allows users to monitor the health of an Infrared (IR) touch monitor by periodically checking if the Infrared LEDs and receivers are functioning properly.
Note: This option will only be visible and available in the driver settings when a supported IR monitor is connected to the system. Additionally, the IR Beam Monitor button will only appear on the Touchscreen properties page after the monitor has been properly calibrated.
Configuring IR Beam Monitor Options
Clicking the IR Beam Monitor button opens a configuration window where you can set the following monitoring options:
- Enable or disable beam health monitoring: Toggles the monitoring feature on or off.
- Enable logging: Writes beam failure messages to the Windows Application Event Log. Events are recorded with an Error level under the source
EloConfig.- Note: Subsequent failures at the exact same location will not generate duplicated events in the Application log. An Information level event is logged once all beams return to a normal working condition.
- Beam test interval: Specifies the beam scan frequency. You can set this value within a range of
10to120seconds.
Warning: When beam monitoring is enabled and an issue is detected, a warning message box will pop up, and a shaded vertical and/or horizontal bar will appear on the screen to indicate the failed beams or blocked area. Touch functionality will not operate within this shaded area until the physical obstruction or failure condition is corrected.
Viewing Application Event Logs
If Enable logging is active, you can monitor the health status using the Windows Event Viewer. The example below shows how these events appear in the Event Viewer's Application Log:
