EC Firmware Update Instructions for EloPOS and WLIDS Units
This article provides step-by-step instructions for updating the EC Firmware on EloPOS and WLIDS devices from Elo — Now part of Zebra Technologies.
Applicable Elo Devices:
- EloPOS Models: E3, E5, S3, S5, H3, H5
- WLIDS Models: i3, i5
Tools & Hardware Needed
- Supported EloPOS or WLIDS system unit.

Power Supply / USB Cables (depending on your unit model):

- USB Keyboard (optional).
- USB Thumb Drive (2MB or larger).
Software Needed
- EC Firmware Files: E3E5_EC_E205.20A_0.27 (available as a KB attachment or Download HERE).
Steps for Preparing the USB Flash Drive
- Format your USB flash drive to FAT32 (minimum size required is 2MB):
- Connect the USB drive to an active computer and select Open folder to view files.
- Right-click the USB drive in Windows Explorer and select Format.
- In the formatting window, choose FAT32 from the File system drop-down menu.
- Click Start and confirm by clicking OK to initiate formatting.
- Once formatting is complete, click OK.
- Extract and copy all files and folders from the
E3E5_EC_E205.20A_0.27directory directly onto the root directory of your formatted USB drive.
Steps for Updating WLIDS Units
- Remove the physical Cable cover to locate and access the USB power connection area.

Plug in the USB-C power adapter and insert your prepared USB thumb drive into the designated ports.
Important Warning: To avoid connector damage, do not rest the physical weight of the WLIDS unit directly onto the connected USB drive. Securely support the device using packing foam or cardboard during this procedure. - Power on the unit.
- During system boot-up, tap the Del key on an external keyboard or touch the on-screen SETUP icon to enter the system BIOS.

Under the Main tab, identify the listed EC Version. (In the example below, the version is v0.21).
Note: If your system is already running EC Version v0.27, your hardware is up-to-date and does not require this procedure. Otherwise, proceed to Step 6. - Navigate to the Save & Exit tab, scroll down to the Boot Override section, and double-click UEFI.

The system will automatically initialize and execute the update utility.
Critical Warning: Do not unplug, power off, or interrupt the device while the firmware update is in progress. -
Once finished, the system will restart and display the Elo splash screen.
- Remove the USB drive immediately and enter the Setup menu. If the USB drive remains connected, the device will loop back into the update screen repeatedly.
- If you miss the initial BIOS boot window, reboot the unit without the USB drive connected, tapping Del or the Setup icon.
- Navigate to the Main tab and verify that the EC Version is updated successfully to 2020.05.20 v0.27. If it has not updated, repeat steps 4 through 6.
Steps for Updating EloPOS Units
- Install your prepared USB Flash Drive into an available port on the device.
- Connect the appropriate DC Power Adapter to your unit.
- Power on the unit.
- During system boot-up, tap the Del key on your keyboard or select the on-screen SETUP icon to access the BIOS.
