Disabling Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) on Elo Monitors
This article details how to disable Consumer Electronics Control (CEC) on compatible touchscreen monitors from Elo — Now part of Zebra Technologies.
Technical Hardware Prerequisite: Most modern Elo monitors feature integrated CEC capabilities. The CEC control signals are transmitted exclusively through Pin 13 of a standard HDMI cable. If your deployment environment experiences hardware conflicts or requires this feature to be completely deactivated, you must physically interrupt the Pin 13 signal.
Method: Utilizing a CEC-Less Adapter
Because CEC is a hardwired connection within standard HDMI cables, the most reliable and non-destructive way to disable this functionality is by installing a passive, specialized adapter between your video cable and the touchmonitor or source computer.
- Obtain an HDMI CEC-Less Adapter. This adapter is specifically wired without physical connections on internal Pin 13, effectively blocking any incoming or outgoing CEC signals.
- Power down the monitor and the source computer.
- Connect the HDMI CEC-Less Adapter directly to the HDMI input port of the Elo monitor, or to the HDMI output port of your computer.
- Securely connect your standard HDMI video cable to the adapter.
- Power on both devices and verify that control signals are no longer being shared between the display and the computer.
Tested Hardware Recommendation: The Lindy HDMI CEC-Less Adapter has been internally tested by Elo engineers and is confirmed to successfully isolate Pin 13 and disable CEC function control.
