This article explains the relevant PCI guidance around pairing a Bluetooth device with the M60
(pg. 12 - https://listings.pcisecuritystandards.org/documents/PTS_POI_Technical_FAQs_v5_Nov_2020.pdf)
With this guidance in mind, when pairing a Bluetooth device to the Elo M60 handheld payment device, which features Bluetooth 5.0, the Bluetooth device must use Security Mode 4, Level 4. This requires Secure Connections, utilizing authenticated pairing and encryption with 128-bit strength keys generated using FIPS-approved Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption. With authenticated pairing, this ensures that both devices mutually authenticate each other, providing a high level of security by confirming the identity of the devices involved in the pairing process, thus protecting against man-in-the-middle attacks and unauthorized access.
