This article provides information about Elo IDS 04/54 being unable to Connect to EloView and how to fix.
Issue Overview
Some IDS 04/54 devices may experience connection failures when attempting to connect to EloView. This issue is related to certificate authentication and firmware compatibility.
Affected Products
- Model: IDS 04/54: IDS 3204L/4304L/5054L/5554L/6554L Displays
- Affected Firmware Versions: All versions below P0.77
Symptoms
- IDS04/54 device fails to establish connection with EloView
- Unable to access cloud features or remote management
- Connection errors when attempting to link device to EloView platform
Root Cause
The connection failure occurs due to certificate authentication changes implemented by the Elo cloud team:
- Firmware versions below P0.63: These versions lack X.509 certificate support and rely on a built-in certificate flow that contains an incorrect URL string, preventing successful connection.
- Firmware version P0.63: This version includes X.509 certificate support but may fail if the X.509 certificate has expired (certificates expire one year after the first connection to EloView).
Risk Assessment
| Firmware Version | Connection Status |
|---|---|
| Below P0.63 | 100% connection failure |
| P0.63 | May fail if X.509 certificate is expired (1 year after first EloView connection) |
| P0.77 or higher | Fully compatible - includes fixes for all known issues |
Note: The built-in certificate remains valid until 2049.
Solution: Update to Firmware P0.77
Firmware version P0.77 resolves all connection issues by:
- Adding X.509 certificate validation and replacement flow to ensure certificates remain valid
- Correcting the URL string error in the built-in certificate flow
- Download P0.77 Firmware from the Elo Support Site
Update Methods
Method 1: USB Firmware Update (Recommended if unable to connect)
Use this method if your device cannot currently connect to EloView.
- Download firmware version P0.77
- Copy the firmware file to a USB flash drive formatted for FAT32 and less than 32GB
- Follow the USB update procedure outlined below and also found in the User Manual (Page 16)
- Wait for the update to complete and the device to restart
- Attempt to connect to EloView
Method 2: OTA Update via ELO View Website
Use this method if your device can still connect to ELO View.
- Log in to the EloView website
- Navigate to your IDSX4 device settings
- Follow the over-the-air (OTA) update instructions below and also found in the IDS IoT Guide (Pages 26-28)
- Select firmware version P0.77 or higher
- Initiate the update and wait for completion
Step-by-Step Troubleshooting
- Check your current firmware version
- Access device settings to identify your current firmware version
- Determine update method
- If firmware is below P0.63 or connection fails: Use USB update method
- If firmware is P0.63 and device connects intermittently: Use OTA update method
- Perform firmware update
- Follow the appropriate method above to update to P0.77
- Verify connection
- After update, test connection to EloView
- Confirm all cloud features are accessible
