This article explains what is meant by LTSB and LTSC when it comes to Elo Operating Systems
LTSB and LTSC are acronyms used by Microsoft for their version of Operating Systems.
- LTSB = Long Term Servicing Branch (this was the original name for these systems)
- LTSC = Long Term Servicing Channel (this is the current name for these systems)
You will find in-depth information on Microsoft's website HERE
What are LTSB/LTSC Systems For?
These versions of Microsoft Operating Systems are designed for systems where little or no changes are going to be made and high levels of stability are needed. You could call these systems "locked down." They are not intended to be "upgraded" or any extra features added to them. They are similar to Embedded Operating Systems.
How are these different from Home, Student, or Pro editions?
LTSB/LTSC systems DO NOT include features that Home, Student, or Pro has such as:
- Microsoft Edge Browser (these only have IE)
- Windows Store (there are no options to add this)
- Cortana
- Calendar, clock, mail, money, music, news, etc.
In short, LTSB/LTSC are bare bone systems intended for a certain purpose. These are not intended to be used the same way a Home, Student, or Pro system is used.
How are these systems updated and/or upgraded?
These systems will only receive critical security and bugfix updates through Windows Updates and nothing else. They will receive security updates for 10-years. You cannot "upgrade" these systems, they are locked down to the version and branch they were sold with (this is a Microsoft restriction).
