The legacy Elo Bio-Metric Fingerprint Reader uses the Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) driver to integrate with Windows Hello. Once the driver is installed and Windows Hello enrollment is completed, users can securely sign in to Windows using their fingerprint.

Install the Driver and Configure Windows Hello
- Download and extract the driver package to a convenient location on your computer.

Connect the Elo Bio-Metric Fingerprint Reader to the Windows 10 computer.
⚠ Important
If Windows attempts to automatically install a driver, cancel the installation. The Windows-supplied driver should not be used. Instead, manually install the WBF driver provided in this article. - Open Device Manager. Locate the U.are.U 4500 Fingerprint Reader under Other devices.
- Right-click the device and select Update driver. Select Browse my computer for drivers.
- Browse to the folder where the driver package was extracted. Open the 10x64 folder and click OK.
- Click Next to begin the driver installation.
- When the installation is complete, click Close.
- Verify that Device Manager now recognizes the fingerprint reader correctly.
- Open the Windows Search box, type Hello, and select Set up fingerprint sign-in.
- Under the Fingerprint section, click Set up.
- Click Get started. When prompted, enter your Windows PIN.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to enroll your fingerprint. When enrollment is complete, Windows displays the message: All set!

- Verify that Windows 10 (64-bit) is installed.
- Confirm that Windows Hello is available and enabled.
- If Windows automatically installed a generic driver, uninstall the device from Device Manager and reinstall it using the WBF driver provided in this article.
- If Windows Hello does not detect the fingerprint reader after installation, disconnect and reconnect the device, then restart the Windows Hello setup.
- Make sure the driver was installed from the 10x64 folder included in the download package.

Installing the Windows Biometric Framework (WBF) driver before configuring Windows Hello provides the most reliable experience. If enrollment fails, disconnect the fingerprint reader, restart the computer, reconnect the reader, and repeat the Windows Hello setup.
