This article provides instructions for replacing the memory module (RAM) in an Elo Backpack® with an Intel processor.
ℹ Before You Begin
Before servicing the unit, power it off, disconnect all power and peripheral cables, and use proper ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection to help prevent damage to internal components.

RAM Replacement Procedure
- Place the Elo Backpack with Intel on a clean, protected work surface.
- Remove the power brick retaining screw, then remove the power brick.
- If surface mount brackets are installed, remove the four mounting screws and detach the brackets.
- Using a Phillips PH1 screwdriver, remove the fifteen (15) screws securing the chassis.
- Carefully separate the top cover from the bottom chassis.
The metal cover may adhere slightly to the enclosure. If necessary, use a plastic pry tool to gently begin separating the cover before lifting it away by hand.
Take care not to damage the RTC battery connector or its wiring. - Carefully peel the blue thermal pad from the top of the memory module and set it aside for reinstallation.
- Using your fingers, gently push the two retaining clips outward until the memory module releases and springs upward.
- Remove the memory module from the socket by pulling it straight out at approximately a 30-degree angle.
- Install a supported replacement DDR5 SO-DIMM by inserting it into the socket at the same angle, then press it downward until both retaining clips lock into place.
- Reinstall the blue thermal pad on top of the memory module.
- Reassemble the Backpack by reversing the disassembly steps.
⚠ Important
Use only supported DDR5 SO-DIMM memory modules. Installing unsupported memory may result in reduced performance, system instability, or compatibility issues.

Factory Memory Specifications
| Model | Factory Memory Configuration |
|---|---|
| Intel N97 | 8 GB DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM installed in one slot. Expandable to 16 GB maximum. |
| Intel Core i3 | 16 GB DDR5-4800 SO-DIMM installed in one slot. Expandable to 16 GB maximum. |
| Intel Core i5 | 16 GB DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM installed in one of two slots. Expandable to 64 GB maximum using two DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM modules.12 |
1 Maximum supported memory capacity is 64 GB using two DDR5-5600 SO-DIMM modules.
2 Before purchasing additional memory, verify the manufacturer of the factory-installed memory module to ensure compatibility with the new memory kit.
💡 Tip
For best performance and compatibility, install memory modules with matching capacity, speed, and manufacturer whenever possible, especially when populating both memory slots on Intel Core i5 models.
