This article describes why Elo cannot provide the Windows product key for All-In-One touchcomputers that have Windows OS preinstalled.
Elo All-In-One touchcomputers that ship with Windows use OEM Activation 3.0 (OA3), which embeds the Windows product key directly into the system’s BIOS/UEFI firmware during manufacturing. This enables Windows to automatically detect and activate the operating system without requiring manual key entry.
Due to Microsoft licensing terms, Elo is not permitted to provide or disclose the embedded Windows product key. This key is permanently tied to the original hardware and cannot be reused or transferred to another system.
If you need to reinstall Windows, the embedded product key will activate automatically as long as you are installing the same edition that originally shipped with the device.
For guidance on reinstalling Windows, refer to this article: How do I put a copy of Windows on an Elo NO OS unit?
🔒 1. Product Key Is Embedded in Firmware
-
Most modern systems use OEM Activation 3.0 (OA3), where the Windows key is injected into the system BIOS/UEFI firmware at the factory.
-
This key is automatically recognized by Windows during installation and activation—no manual entry or sharing is needed.
🛡️ 2. Microsoft Licensing Restrictions
-
Microsoft prohibits OEMs from disclosing embedded product keys to end users for security and anti-piracy reasons.
-
Sharing the key would violate Microsoft's OEM licensing agreement, which could jeopardize the OEM’s licensing status.
🧩 3. Key Tied to Hardware
-
The OEM key is non-transferable—it's permanently bound to the original hardware.
-
Even if retrieved, it cannot legally be used on another system or reused after hardware replacement.
✅ What You Can Do
-
Use tools like
slmgr /xpr
or check System > Activation in Windows Settings to confirm activation status. -
If reinstalling the same edition of Windows, the embedded key will activate automatically—no action required.
