Resolving SHA-2 Digital Signature and Driver Installation Errors on Windows 7

When installing modern Elo Multi-Touch driver packages (version 7.0.0 and newer) on Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2, the installer may fail with digital signature verification errors or report that the driver package cannot be installed.

This occurs because modern Elo drivers are digitally signed using Microsoft’s SHA-2 code signing algorithm. Legacy Windows 7 installations without the required Microsoft servicing stack updates only support SHA-1 signing by default and cannot validate SHA-2 signed binaries.

Required Microsoft KB Updates

To enable SHA-2 code signing validation on Windows 7 / Server 2008 R2, download and install the following three Microsoft Knowledge Base updates in the exact sequential order listed below:

1. Install KB4490628: Servicing Stack Update (SSU).
2. Install KB4474419: SHA-2 Code Signing Support Update, then restart the computer.
3. Install KB4534310: Security Monthly Quality Rollup, then restart the computer.
