This article explains how to wipe a Hard Drive from a non-functional Elo Touch Computer
If your Elo touch computer won’t power on or boot, and you need to wipe the hard drive before sending it in for repair, follow the steps below.
Note: Removing the hard drive does not void your warranty unless damage occurs during removal or reassembly.
Step 1: Remove the Hard Drive
Follow the applicable guide for your Elo device:
- ECMG2/ECMG3
- EloPOS
- EloPOS Pack
- E-Series
- I-Series 1.0 for Windows
- I-Series 2.0 for Windows
- PayPoint Plus for Windows
- X-Series
If your product is not listed, please contact Elo Support for assistance.
Step 2: Connect the Drive to a Working Computer
Use an appropriate adapter to connect the drive externally:
- SATA to USB cable
- SATA Docking Station
- External Hard Drive Enclosure
- If using an M.2 SSD: M.2 to SATA adapter
Step 3: Delete or Back Up Files
Once connected and recognized by the working computer:
- Open File Explorer.
- Navigate to the connected drive.
- Manually delete sensitive files, or back them up to the working system and then delete.
Step 4 (Optional): Reformat the Drive
If you want to fully wipe the drive:
- Ensure the correct drive is selected to avoid wiping your main computer.
- In File Explorer, right-click the drive and select Format.
- Choose a file system (usually NTFS), give it a name, and check Quick Format.
- Click Start to complete the process.
Caution: Formatting the wrong drive can make your computer inoperable.
